Oasis Hospital is located in the city of Al Ain, approx.160 kilometers east of the capital city of the UAE, Abu Dhabi. In November 1960 at the invitation of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his brother Sheikh Shakhbut, Oasis Hospital was opened. From 1960 to 1963 Drs. Pat & Marian Kennedy and a small medical team, set up their first clinic in a guest house located in what is now downtown Al Ain, featuring quickly constructed palm branch patient rooms. In January 1962 the first cement block building in Al Ain was constructed on the present site, creating 20 patient rooms with a staff station, nursery and Utility room. One of these buildings and the original pre-fabricated metal structures, have been renovated and are still in use today. The first permanent facility remained functional until the completion of the existing in-patient building in 1990 and a new out-patient clinic that was added in 1995. Oasis is one of the three major health facilities in Al Ain and provides a private, not-for-profit sub regional specialist health service to a rapidly growing population projected to be in the order of 787,000 people by the year 2015. Oasis delivers 1900 babies and treats over 50,000 out-patients annually. It services families from the UAE, Oman and an expatriate population from almost every country in the world.
